The Road and Motorway Directorate started the construction of Frýdek-Místek bypass and the connection of D56 motorway to the D48.

On Tuesday 22nd May, the Road and Motorway Directorate launched the first phase of the Frýdek-Místek bypass and the connection of D56 motorway to D48. "The construction of the Frýdek-Místek capacitive bypass and the related connection of the D56 motorway will divert all transit traffic from the city to the bypass roads which will significantly increase the safety and the flow of the road traffic.

The key is the commencement of the second phase of the bypass where the construction permission is unfortunately attacked by one civic association. Nevertheless, we would like to start this second phase even this year, "Jan Kroup, CEO of the ŘSD, introduced the commencing works. The traffic on the road through Frýdek-Místek is very heavy with high noise pollution for the surrounding housing and is a source of frequent traffic accidents. The capacity of the carriageway is also near its limit. In order to continue to see this carriageway as a high quality road and to relieve the city centre from transit traffic, it is necessary to relocate the transport out of housing area.

The D56 construction in Frýdek-Místek and its connection to the D48 is actually the completion of the Frýdek-Místek western bypass in terms of the D56 road and the continuation of the D48 Frýdek-Místek construction bypass. The construction of the bypass, together with the D56 motorway, will bring significant improvements to the environment for the citizens of Frýdek-Místek and will not only increase the speed of the traffic but will also increase its safety and the flow. The D48 motorway is an important west-orientated traffic artery within the Moravian-Silesian region.

The carriageway connects the southern part of the Moravian-Silesian Region with Central Moravia and Poland. The D56 motorway is an important north-south traffic artery within the Moravian-Silesian region. The carriageway connects Ostrava with an attractive recreational site around the Šance water reservoir in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains and Beskydy Mountains in general. It also allows the connection between Ostrava and the Slovak Republic through the border crossings Horní Bečva-Makov or Bílá-Klokočov. The constructions are designed to be co-financed under the Operational program Transport 2014-2020 from the Cohesion Fund and from the European Regional Development Fund.
